HIV aids patient care
There is more than drugs and treatment when it comes to HIV AIDS patient care and there are various things and aspects that need to be kept in mind. HIV AIDS patient care involves medicines, drugs and treatment and also an understanding of what the patient may be going through in his head. There are various complications that are involved and knowing that the prognosis cannot last for more than a certain number of years is something that no one can actually handle. It is estimated that with treatment an HIV AIDS patient can survive from anywhere between nine to eleven years and this depends on the specific HIV subtype that has inflicted the person. The drug treatment that is given today is called the antiretroviral treatment that is given immediately after exposing the patient to a significant virus. This is called the post-exposure prophylaxis. All the treatment options however have side effects that are equally difficult to handle and therefore the life of the patient revolves around therapy all the time.
An AIDS HIV patient also goes through a fair amount of trauma after he has been diagnosed of the condition unequivocally. First there is this doubt about the whole thing and the agony that one goes through when one is awaiting results of the screening and confirmatory tests. If the tests are confirmed and one has been told about the condition, then there is the aspect of managing the acceptance of the condition. It is not easy for anyone to accept the fact that he shall be able to live for only a few more years and therefore sometimes therapy is also required. This therapy is mainly done in groups where other patients share their experiences.
An AIDS patients needs to be handled with compassion and empathy. But then there are no set rules about the manner in which the patient should be spoken to. Family and friends who are taking care of the person need to be able to assess this on their own to be able to handle the patient in a manner that is most appropriate.
Some AIDS patients prefer to be handled with empathy but on the other hand there are some that hate the fact that people are looking at them with sympathy and pity. This does not allow an egotistical man with dignity to live the normal life that he led and it brings back thoughts about how he is now not normal any more.
There are also some alternative treatments that claim to be able to manage the condition in a manner that is better than the conventional therapy or treatment. These alternative remedies do not have the side effects that are associated with regular treatment. Therefore there is no harm in trying these out for HIV AIDS patient care.
